Optimizing Traffic Signals in Smart Cities Based on Genetic Algorithm

Current traffic signals in Jordan suffer from severe congestion due to many factors, such as the considerable increase number of vehicles and use fixed timers, which still control existing signals. This condition affects travel demand on streets Jordan. study aims improve an intelligent road management system (IRTMS) derived human community-based genetic algorithm (HCBGA) mitigate signal Amman, Jordan’s capital city. The parameters considered for IRTMS are total time waiting time, timers used control. By contrast, enhanced system, called enhanced-IRTMS (E-IRTMS), considers additional important parameters, namely, speed performance index (SPI), reduction (SRI), (Ri), period, enhance decision. A significant period was measured using E-IRTMS, improving by 13% compared with that IRTMS. Meanwhile, result surpasses current approximately 83%. finding demonstrates E-IRTMS based HCBGA unfixed achieves shorter terms SPI, SRI, Ri
